Electronic readers are among the newest promotional and selling tools of the publishing industry. EBook devices give an author the capability to broaden his or her book’s exposure worldwide, even though the book may be in or out of print. For those authors who wish to take advantage of this exciting media, Mechling Bookbindery can help. We now convert books for publication in the Amazon Kindle and Barnes & Noble Nook.

The following guidelines are set by Amazon and Barnes & Noble for proper submission of files to be downloaded and sold on their website:

Acceptable file types are Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, PDF, and others. Images must either be jpeg. or gif. files; if not in one of these extensions, we can convert them for you.

Books can be submitted with any font, but will be standardized, using Garamond. With most devices, because the font is standardized, the viewer has the option to choose a desired font.

Multiple columns will be converted to single columns. Tables do not view properly unless converted to an image; however, this process of conversion could result in undesirable results.

A thumbnail cover image is required for the Kindle and Nook catalogs. If you are unable to provide one, we can design one for you.

A table of contents is required and is typically based on the chapters.

Hyperlinks can cause problems among certain devices and appear distracting. Hyperlinks will only work correctly in the eBook if they are set up properly in the initial document.

Upon completion, you will be provided with MOBI (for Amazon) and EPUB (for Barnes & Noble) files. After establishing an account with and uploading your files to these eBook stores, you will be able to control your royalties and monitor your success. Our staff can support you through this process and will be happy to answer any questions you may have

In order for books to function properly on these readers, special formatting is required; thus, the resulting eBook does not appear the same as the printed copy. Although it may seem simple to convert book files to acceptable files for the readers, it is, in fact, a very complex and time-consuming task. At Mechling, we have the capability to deliver a file that is pleasing to the eye and is less likely to result in book returns and bad reviews.

After we receive your eBook conversion form, we will contact you for additional information and provide you with instructions on submitting your files. When all of your files have been submitted, we will provide you with your complete eBook package in 7 to 10 business days.
